Homecoming Week

The kids had Homecoming this past week.  Nathaniel didn't go this year, but Emily went with a group of friends.

On Thursday, Emily had her "court case."  It was her class against one from the other high school in our district.  They used what they have learned in World History class, and "Civilization" was on trial.  It was a debate about whether or not mankind is better off as we are now than how it was when there were hunters and gatherers and a nomadic existence.  Her class was in defense of civilization, and they won!  Emily was the paralegal, and her friend gave the opening argument.

Both wearing their class T-shirts!

All ready for the dance!  She had a great time!

Trade Show in Toronto

I had a great time on my business trip to Toronto.  It was the first time I went on a business trip by myself.  One of our distributors had a booth there, and so I went there to talk to people about our products.

I stayed at a Residence Inn downtown.  It was within walking distance to the convention center.  I had a great view of the CN Tower (the tallest free-standing structure in the world!) from my hotel room!

I really enjoyed working in the booth.  It is tiring to be on your feet all day, but I always like meeting new people at the trade shows.

I had some time to take a tour of the CN Tower.  It was amazing!

Me on the Glass Floor--crazy!

Info about the CN Tower

I went the highest you can go--to the Sky Pod.  When I first got up there, it was really foggy.  We were literally above the clouds!  Thankfully it cleared up.  I was able to look straight down and see people doing the Sky Walk.  That looked crazy!  They are attached to a track that goes around.  They seemed to be getting a lesson from the instructor when these were taken.

I had to take a picture of this aerial view of a roundhouse.  The boys still have their Thomas the Tank Engine roundhouse, and they get it out and build tracks sometimes.

It was an amazing trip!  It was my first trip to Canada, and I loved it!

Rock Climbing

We had a Cub Scout Pack Activity at the rec center to do rock climbing.  The rock wall is 42 feet high!  Jonathan was excited about it until he tried it and he was quickly scared and frustrated.  He didn't want to try again, as much as I tried to convince him.  Finally I said, "Just try one more time and if you still don't like it then you can just be done and watch your friends."  Surprisingly, he agreed.  He tried a different location and started to get frustrated again, so I said, "Let's just go back to the first one--I know you can do it!"  And he did!  I was so proud of him!!!  Daniel did a great job, too--he made it all the way to the top!

Great job, boys!
